Snapdragon apple becomes sponsor for Tough Mudder races

Crunch Time Apple Growers and Tough Mudder talent from the Tough Mudder races will get their chomp on with SnapDragon apples at Andaz 5th Avenue on Friday, October 26th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. National media will be in attendance along with talent from Tough Mudder races and the next generation of SnapDragon apple growers — including Joel Crist, Chairman of Crunch Time’s Board of Directors.

The apples are launching into the market this season with a tasting event created by Andaz chefs featuring the apple in several dishes. In addition, guests can try a Tough Mudder-inspired 'muddytini'. Rena Montedoro, Crunch Time’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing, said, "Apple farmers aren’t so different than Tough Mudders - they both work hard and play hard. This event will bring them together to celebrate healthy living and eating.”

SnapDragon apples are grown exclusively in New York by New York farmers and is one of two of the newest managed varieties. “We think our brand is a lot like the Tough Mudders. Taking on challenges that seem impossible. SnapDragon apples are grown by mostly family farmers in New York. Like our Tough Mudders, we are not afraid of a little dirt.”

Montedoro points out that despite what overcrowding in the apple category, SnapDragon apples have become a much-loved new apple. “Like the Tough Mudders - our favorite endurance race! We are in it to win it!” SnapDragon is the official sponsor of select Tough Mudder races across the county. Tough Mudder has over 4 million followers. Over 25,000 of the apples will be handed out at Tough Mudder races this season alone.

SnapDragon apples, a descendant of the Honeycrisp variety, officially launched in 2015. Its flavor profile, size, and extra crunchy ‘snap’ has proved to be appealing for millennials and baby boomers, according to Crunch Time Apple Growers, who added that they have realized a 60 percent increase in harvest this year.
