The first Australian mangoes of the Pine Creek Mango Plantation arrived in the Netherlands yesterday. “We’re receiving the mangoes in cooperation with Van der Lem in Uitgeest, and we’ve now found 11 parties who will taste and test the mangoes,” says Bart Beemsterboer.
It involves the R2E2 and Kensington Pride varieties in sizes 9 to 22. “The Kensington Pride mangoes are grown at our mango plantation in Pine Creek. The plantation is on top of an old gold mine, and is slightly more northern than Darwin, which means the climate is different, resulting in a different mango than in Darwin,” Bart says.
The R2E2 mangoes are grown in Lake Bennett and in Berry Springs. “This variety is slightly less sweet and has a slightly firmer structure, although it’s still a wonderfully sweet mango. The mango season in Northern Territory lasts until mid-November, and then Queensland will start their harvests. Both varieties are grown in Queensland as well,” Bart says.
The Australian mango production company Pine Creek Mango Plantation consists of 17 production companies, which are good for about 60,000 trees combined. The company has now picked up export to destinations including Singapore and Hong Kong, to which end it works together with companies like Levarht. With the export to the Netherlands, the company is taking its first steps in the expansion towards Europe.
