Alexander Verduyn, Verduyn

“With these new washing lines we can serve our clients faster"

The Belgian company, Verduyn, is constructing a new company building. This is in order to serve their clients better and faster. "The building should be finished by the end of the year. There will be a new washing plant in the building. Here, Verduyn can wash products for the fresh market as well as the industry", says CEO Alexander Verduyn.

"We will wash mostly carrots. Beets, turnips, large carrots, organic carrots, and other vegetables can also be washed. It is a modernization compared to the earlier line. We can now also provide more capacity. Clients want to be served faster so we must be able to work faster."

The new bright green building

There will be two washing line in the new building. There will also be an automated sorting plant. From here, the products will go into an automated refrigerated warehouse for temporary storage. "Space for new activities will then become available at the existing site", says Alexander.

The new building will add about 8.500m2 to the Verduyn company. "We are on a 7,5-hectare site. It will soon be reached more easily via a new, wider access route. As a result, the site's total area will also be better utilized."

Carrots
“The new building is mainly being built to sort our product in a faster, better, more controlled manner. We will also be able to process our by-products more quickly and effectively. In this way, we will be able to serve our clients faster. The clients also want more precise quality. We want to respond to this by offering an even better service",  says Verduyn.

The market for carrots has not been good for a while now. It has been too dry in the Benelux and France for some time. These adverse conditions mean yields have been too low. "Carrots on the free market remain expensive even if the demand is not high. In Europe, the demand for carrots has dipped slightly. This effect is compensated for by a 20-25% drop in yield. One benefit is that the carrots' quality is excellent this year."

The top part of the new building will be painted a striking color. "The factory is white with a striking bright green high-rise building. The beautiful green color looks young and fresh", concludes Alexander.
