Fuego volcano continues to threaten Guatemala

The Fuego volcano erupted in Guatemala last weekend. This eruption wasn't as violent as last year's eruption, which caused the death of many people, but its damage was also considerable.

The explosions, which ranged from mild to moderate, sent smoke 940 meters above the crater and the lava flow reached 1,200 meters. The Fuego Volcano is located 50 kilometers west of the capital of Guatemala, and spewed lava up to 100 to 200 meters above its crater during the night of Sunday and early Monday.

After the eruption last Friday, more than 60 people were evacuated, according to the National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology (Insivumeh).

The Pacaya volcano, which is located 20 kilometers south of the capital, and the Santiaguito volcano, which is 117 kilometers west of Guatemala City, have also shown greater activity, so the authorities and media continue to be alert.

A front that could help Guatemala
In spite of the eruption of the volcano, the current climatic instability in the Pacific of Central America could be beneficial for Guatemala, as there is a system of low pressures advancing from El Salvador towards Guatemala, which means that it could start to rain in the southern and central regions of the country on Wednesday, October 17, and that the rains could last the rest of the week.
