Within the framework of the Jujuy Assists and Reactives Contingency Plan in Argentina, Abel Martinez, a producer and entrepreneur, received government funds to construct a greenhouse for a particular purpose.
The greenhouse will be constructed in the town of Barcena, in the province of Jujuy. The greenhouse will use hydroponic cultivation methods, a global trend for crop production.
The goal is to grow different colored strawberries, be they yellow, white, or blue, to find new ways of perceiving the colors and flavors of this fruit.
Martinez said the government funds would be used to build a controlled temperature greenhouse that will allow production of the fruits throughout the whole year.
"We want to install this variety throughout the region. In other countries, such as Japan, the Netherlands, and China, the production system and marketing are very developed," he said.
He also said that, if everything went according to plan, they would produce the first colored strawberries in Jujuy in three or four months.
