When it comes to the subject of food waste, some good ideas are very much needed. The current situation, where in private households one eighth of purchased foodstuffs ends up in the garbage bin, is simply untenable. The reasons for the waste are many and incorrect storage is one of them. A solution for the optimal storage of fruits and vegetables now comes from Wuppertal.
Wuppertal Media Design student Marina Klein has compiled this knowledge in a 'storage ABC' of more than 100 pages. In cooperation with Verbraucherzentrale NRW she developed a free reference book for everyday use.
From A for Apple through M for Mango to Z for Zucchini, In her 'storage ABC', Marina Klein has gathered all the information on around 70 fruits and vegetables. In it, she not only indicates where the food is best stored - cool or dry, dark or light - but she also gives tips on preparation, utilization of leftovers and assessment of the degree of ripeness. In addition to this, some fruits and some vegetables emit a specific gas, which speeds up the maturation of sensitive foods. Klein's storage ABC explains which varieties are affected by this and why they should not be stored next to each other.
