Vegetable Summit 2018 came with three big announcements

Peas Please was delighted to hold the Vegetable Summit 2018 at City Hall on Monday 8th October. The Vegetable Summit 2018 marked the publication of the first Peas Please Progress report, which details action taken by Peas Please pledgers since they first committed to support veg intake a year ago, and examines opportunities for effecting meaningful change in the next few years.

It was a brilliant afternoon of fascinating keynotes and panel discussions covering all things veg-related, including the role of vegetable consumption in protecting the environment and public health, real life barriers to eating vegetables, opportunities to reinvent ready meals and the part policy can play in supporting veg consumption in the UK.

The big announcements were as follows (Watch Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall opening the golden envelopes here):

  • Peas Please has helped sell an additional 4.8 million portions of vegetables since it was launched last year
  • We now have 17 Veg Cities up and running
  • Fifteen new pledgers are already on board for the coming Peas Please year

"In Veg Power news, we were thrilled to announce that Veg Power and ITV have announced a major new advertising campaign to get the UK eating more veg. Advertising agency adam&eveDDB will be donating their time to create a ground-breaking campaign to fill the £2 million’s worth of advertising airtime donated by ITV. The development of bold, engaging new veg adverts will be funded by a unique alliance of major UK retailers, and will reach over two thirds of UK households with children."

"We received lots of press coverage of Peas Please achievements thus far, the raft of new pledgers and their commitments, and the Veg Power ITV campaign announcement – it’s great to see so many publications writing about the initiative."

"With Peas Please extended until 2022, we’re keen to get as many new pledgers on board as possible. The commitments framework is here – please do get in touch if you’d like to make or update your own pledge to get more veg on UK plates."
