Construction of new Zederik Groep building for cooling fruit and folding cardboard trays

The 3rd of October saw the start of the construction of a new company building for Koelcentrum Zederik BV and Zederik Verpakking BV.  Management, family members, its main contractor Cordeel and other parties involved, watched as the first pile was placed last Wednesday.

The modern logistical centre will be built at industrial estate Oost II in Gorinchem, the Netherlands, and it will be wonderfully visible from the A15 motorway. With a floor area of approximately 13,000 m2, the 17-metre high building will offer space for the cooling of fruit and the folding of cardboard trays, among other things. A large sorting and packing room and some ripening chambers will be set up on an intermediate floor.

Zederik Verpakking BV will be capable of realising very competitive cardboard trays for fruit and vegetables for their customers as well as for themselves by means of modern folding machinery combined with optimised internal logistics. “Because we also pack our own fruit, we understand like no other that short delivery times, a qualitative tray and meeting deadlines with customers are essential for a successful, long-term relationship. From our centrally located new location near the A15, we can supply our customers even more quickly and efficiently.”

Koelcentrum Zederik BV, which is primarily known as a specialist in the field of long ULO storage of Dutch apples and pears, has seen its activities in the field of imported fruit taking considerable flight in recent years. “Our current cold stores are mostly set up for the storage of Dutch fruit in storage crates. However, from our customers in imported fruit, we’ve seen a growing demand for a different kind of service. We’re dealing with increasingly faster stock movements. Besides, it’s become necessary to offer versatile and flexible sorting and repacking services.

The new building in Gorinchem will be taken into use in 2019.
