Ambitions to become the next leaders in top quality Avocado from Israel

UMS and grower co-op Pri-Deganim join forces

Following a successful joint campaign last winter to develop mutual interests, UMS and one of the leading growing Co-ops in Israel, ‘Pri-Deganim’, have signed an agreement to work hand in hand to enhance and strengthen each other, leveraging their marketing and growing experience, to position them as one of the leading players exporting out of Israel.

This strategic co-operation will focus primarily on Avocado, but will also extend into ventures involving other products outside of the Avocado season.

UMS, a well-established private exporter, trading and innovating in Fresh produce for more than 20 years, has been developing Avocado over the past five years as a key product within the company's portfolio, creating strong alliances with major customers overseas. “This new agreement will consolidate the foundations for becoming a substantial and reliable supplier, in line with UMS’s marketing agenda. We will, as usual, concentrate on quality and continuity, working in transparency with the grower, building mutual prospects together, and giving quality service to the best customers,” says Ariel Shalev, VP at UMS.

Pri-Deganim, a co-op of veteran farmers, is one of the largest growers of Avocado in Israel. They are in the final stages of building a new Packhouse, equipped with the latest machinery and technology, set up to pack and dispatch up to 8000 tons of Avocados annually. Pri-Deganim have cultivated new plantations, which will further expand their production during the next couple of years.

The farm has implemented a high standard ethical and growing protocol, supported by new precision technologies such as Phytech (a daughter company of UMS), analyzing and improving crop efficiency and sustainability. Agreements are being made with external growers to integrate with the new venture and increase volumes.

The group is expected to start producing and marketing together this coming fall under their new brand ‘TipTop’, and will be further expanding their marketing in Europe, the UK, Russia and the Far-East. Raz Gelbart, Marketing Manager and head of Avocado at UMS says, “A full range of varieties and sizes will be packed according to designated orders and distributed around the globe”.

“We are very excited about this new partnership. Both parties have a lot to contribute to the enterprise, and we will take full advantage of this, to stand out in the field and the market place,” says Yigal Raviv, CEO of Pri-Deganim.
