China: Leeks gradually enter weak market

Sannong Zhongguo reports that leeks are the seasonal product on the market this week. The market is huge as leeks are not easily replaced with other products. The main supply shifts from south China to north China in the second half of the year. Leek farmers in north China gradually enter peak autumn harvest season. The current market volume is much larger than before.

Data shows that the overall surface area devoted to onion plantation in China this year increased by 3%-5% in comparison with last year. The leek price suffered from the shift of production areas. The current autumn market is quite weak and the price is slightly lower than last week. The supply volume increases, while delivery to retail areas is difficult. In addition, the weather became colder and so the transport damage rate decrease and the storage period increased.
