The sweet potato season is going well in Puglia, and the product is increasingly popular in Italian markets and supermarkets, although consumers still don't really know how to use it.
"Quality is increasing year after year. Yields are satisfactory despite the cold summer," explains a producer.
"Evening temperatures dropped to as little as 20°C, but the crop requires warmer weather and, mostly, sunlight. "We have planned to extend the corps to try out new varieties, as the processing industry requires a lot of produce. Sweet potato fries also also gaining popularity."
"Almost all of our production is booked. Prices at origin are satisfactory at the moment, though the US and Spanish competition is strong."
