Plenty of veg available for China's National Day

Several vegetable production areas have suffered from poor weather conditions in recent weeks. It became clear that vegetable production in early September lagged behind regular production as a result of poor weather. Overall, the vegetable supply in this fourth quarter and during the long holiday of China's National Day was sufficient, but there is an overall decrease and some vegetable products are in short supply.

First, the overall surface area devoted to vegetable production in some major production areas decreased, which in turn led to reduced supply. Second, major production areas of autumn vegetables suffered from heavy rainfall, scarce sunshine, and cold weather. Autumn vegetable production suffered as a result. Third, some vegetables are in short supply and supplementary vegetable production in Weifang, Shandong, has been delayed by one or two months. All of these aspects are influencing the vegetable supply in October.

The wholesale price of vegetables temporarily increased during the long holiday of China's National Day because consumer demand increased. The price came down again after the holiday, but remained slightly increased in comparison with the price prior to the holiday. The price of staple vegetables like onions and potatoes is stable as supply is sufficient.
