What puts Aldi ahead of other discounters?

The Hahn Group recently released its annual Hahn Retail Estate Report. In terms of sales, discounters have regained the leading position among hypermarkets. Thus, the discounters with an annual sales increase of 2.7 percent secured the highest share of sales of 41.2 percent in this industry.

Interesting results are becoming particularly evident when comparing 'area productivity'. Here, Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd performed best of all food retailers. With a gross turnover of 10,350 euros per square meter, Aldi Süd has reached a new record level. Although Aldi Nord is still a long way from this with an area productivity of 6,650 euros per square meter, the sister company recorded an overall increase in area output of 6.4 percent. Within two years, the Essenes were able to increase their square meter turnover by as much as 500 euros.

According to the report, Aldi Süd significantly changed its market concept last year. Thus, the number of articles has been increased by 20 percent, now including more brand, organic, and natural cosmetics. A new bakery concept and an expanded fresh offer are also among these innovations.
