In response to the pronouncement made by the Association of banana workers of Magdalena and La Guajira - Asbama, the manager of Electricaribe, David De Marchena Gonzalez, held a meeting with the president of this Association, Jose Francisco Zuñiga Cotes, to talk about the constant energy outages in the municipality of Zona Bananera.
The meeting, which was also attended by some members of this association, as well as members of its Board of Directors, revolved around the complaints of the banana businessmen due to the constant power failures, which sometimes are prolonged, and that cause them economic damages, as they have to suspend their operations and make large investments to use their emergency power generation systems.
The manager of Electricaribe said that the company had discovered that "two lines that supply power to the banana plantations were malfunctioning, and that they made some investments in August and September of this year to optimize the electrical networks that had deteriorated. These works, unfortunately, required them to interrupt the service."
David De Marchena committed to schedule the preventive maintenance and give producers notice about said schedule, as well as to respond in the shortest possible time to the energy issues that producers can have by having a brigade working in the Zona Bananera.
"This is a problem that is affecting the sector and causing large economic losses. In response to the call we made, Electricaribe acknowledged that there were flaws in the service and that they were working to improve the service. After this meeting, we agreed on a series of commitments that will help minimize the negative impacts we are suffering," stated the president of Asbama, Jose Francisco Zuñiga Cotes.
