China: Banana prices rose more than 50% in the third quarter

Affected by lower output and the reduced supply of seasonal replacement fruits, this year's banana price is different from the summer of the previous year, and the cumulative increase in the third quarter has exceeded 50%. However, the current risk factor for banana planting and management is still at a high level, with high returns but also high risks.

Recently, the China Economic Information Service and the Chengmai County People's Government of Hainan Province jointly released the “Xinhua-Banana Wholesale Price Index” in Beijing, aiming at accurately depicting the price changes in the domestic banana wholesale chain while providing an objective and accurate value benchmark and the basis for decision making for the market.

The “Xinhua-Banana Wholesale Price Index” contains wholesale price indices for the seven regions of North China, East China, Central China, Northwest China, Northeast China, South China and Southwest China. Based on the national wholesale price data of bananas, the sample covers 13 major distribution centers of China's banana sales area.
