Brief analysis of Chinese kiwifruit market

Kiwi fruit recently entered the market in large volumes. The harvest of early-season varieties like Hongyang [Red Sun] is already completed, while the harvest of mid-season varieties like Xuxiang, Cuixiang, and Miliang is almost over. Yellow heart kiwi fruit varieties like Jinyan and Jintao are well represented in the marketplace.

Price changes are largely dictated by the market and vary for different kiwi fruit varieties. Red heart varieties like Cuixiang, Guichang, Biyu, and Ruanzao are doing quite well, while yellow heart kiwi fruit varieties that used to be popular are not doing great because they lag behind imported yellow heart kiwi fruit.

China is the largest export market for "Zespri" from New Zealand. Zespri holds a prominent position in the high-end fruit market and their sales volume is growing every year. This shows that the Chinese kiwi market is far from saturated, and the high-end market in particular suffers from a situation where demand exceeds supply.
