An entrepreneur in Baskil district of Elazig, a city in eastern Turkey, has set up an apricot packaging and processing facility with a 330,000 USD investment.
65 % of the facility costs were covered by government incentive programs and it is set in an area of 1,500 square meters. The facility is seen as very crucial for the local apricot growers to be able to sell their products at the desired levels.
Around 60,000 tons of apricots are grown in Baskil annually and the production area is around 7,700 hectares with 1 million trees. This facility is expected to transform products into high added-value products with proper processing and packaging and thereby to bring better prices for the growers.
