Average harvest expected, despite difficult growing conditions

Prince de Bretagne launches artichoke autumn campaign

The French sales cooperative Prince de Bretagne has started the artichokes autumn campaign. Artichoke cultivation in the Brittany region takes place in a three-year cycle. Despite the difficult growing conditions this year, normal harvest volumes are expected.

This year, the two- and three-year-old plants in the cultivation process have suffered greatly under the difficult climatic conditions at the beginning of the year (rain and frost), but for the spring crops of all varieties the harvest is fully underway. The harvest expectations for September and October for Camus, Castel and Cardinal artichokes are at the same level as in previous years. The artichokes are available in different calibers and packaging units: 13 to 30 heads, in wooden, carton or plastic crates and in the formats 60x40 or 40x30.

'Taste of the Year'
A 120-member consumer jury recently gave out an award for the Cardinal Artichoke of the cooperative, commending its delicate taste properties. The gave it the coveted title 'Taste of the Year 2018'. The pulp of the Cardinal artichoke is not only delicious, but also very sumptuous. Particularly appreciated is its rounded shape with the close-fitting leaves.

In addition, the small, purple artichokes currently are in season as well. The small, purple artichokes, bound in bunches, or offered individually, are particularly popular for their quality and their attractive appearance.
