Anton Dürbeck GmbH: ''First container expected in Hamburg on October 1st''

''First Rainforest Alliance certified EXCELBAN® bananas from own plantation''

Anton Dürbeck GmbH will welcome the first three Excelban® containers in the Port of Hamburg on October 1st, 2018. The bananas are coming from Ecuador and are certified according to Rainforest Alliance guidelines. The volumes will gradually rise to about 10,000 cartons per week over the next few weeks.

A complete switch to Rainforest Alliance production is already being planned, says the management in a statement. Over the next 1 to 2 years, Rainforest Allicance certified bananas from their own plantations should increase to up to 25,000 cartons per week.

Great investments
For more than 25 years, the Anton Dürbeck GmbH company, based in Bad Homburg, has been importing bananas from Ecuador. In 2017, over 14 million boxes of the Excelban® and Dolce & Banana® brands were marketed in Europe and the Mediterranean. The group has also invested heavily in its own fruit growing -its own banana production operation now extends to over 700 hectares and covers an import volume of almost 40,000 cartons per week on average (2 million cartons per year).
