Fruits de Ponent joins Spanish Network for UN Global Compact

The Fruits de Ponent Cooperative Group has become a "signatory partner" of the Spanish Network for the United Nations Global Compact. Its goal is to contribute, as a cooperative and company, to the development of the 17 sustainable development goals set by the high commissioner within the framework of the 2030 Agenda.

The Cooperative Group was already committed since 2012 to the 10 Principles of the Global Compact; however, since this past May, it has increased its level of commitment by actively participating in the development of these Objectives for a fairer and more sustainable planet. In addition, it has become part of the Working Group of companies from the agri-food sector, which pursues to debate and search for good practices and resources in the Primary Sector, the Agri-food industry and Food Distribution, as well as to analyze the sector's challenges and opportunities in the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The General Director of Fruits de Ponent, Josep Presseguer, says that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) must be understood on a global scale, because every step that companies make has consequences in the environment. Thus, the development of Sustainable Development Goals by companies does nothing but make a positive contribution a better world.

Fruits de Ponent is currently carrying out different internal programs related to some of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The list includes ODS programs focused on equality in the work environment; actions to fight against hunger, with agreements with third sector entities; or an efficient management of water resources in the field, as well as an ethical and responsible relationship with customers and suppliers, among others.

The Global Compact is made up of more than 13,000 entities around the world. It is articulated through local networks, which help the companies in each country in adhering to the 10 principles of the Pact. These principles are related to the defense of human rights, as well as good labor practices and the preservation of the environment, as well as the fight against climate change, among others.
