The harvest of early-season apples is already close to its end. The prices this year are much better than they have been for several years. This bodes well for late-season apples. The price may reach record heights. Market conditions are great this year and some orchard owners do not even wait for the apples to change their color before they harvest, package, and transport them. Demand exceeds supply.
Apples
The price of fresh apples and the new season of apples in storage both profit from a decreased production volume as a result of poor weather conditions. Apple traders should not be too optimistic, however, as apple prices are influenced by more than production volume alone.
The price set by early-season apples is likely to rise even further in this Mid-Autumn Festival period. Furthermore, recent rainfall in Gansu, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Henan, and Shandong has not been favorable for the remaining harvest of high-quality green and red Fuji apples. The price increase is expected to last until the "National Day" [1 October] when traders begin to purchase apples for storage.
