Dominican Republic opens commercial relations with China

“This commercial agreement will open lots of opportunities for export companies, growers, and big established companies that are willing to export to China. Having directs flights with competitive airfreight fares gives us a big benefit, as well will the tourism and investments from both countries”, states Cesar Perez from the Dominican Republic.

He explains that on the 21st of May, China opened an embassy in the Dominican Republic. This created a lot of expectations between both countries. “China exported during the year 2017, USD $2,603.4 million and the Dominican Republic send USD $145 millions. In order to balance the difference, the governments are preparing a strategy for a better exportable offer. As this will stimulate our production side and establish more jobs. The other way around, having more import results in an inflow of funds, which stimulates the spending of the Dominicans and contributes to our economic growth.”

A positive aspect is the location the Dominican Republic has. “China is proposing three airlines to increase the tourism and fast shipments. This will make it easier for them to receive fresh perishable fruit and vegetables, meat and other. In addition, the cargo shipments have better rates now as well. There is a big list of products,  all of which are allowed to get exported to China now, such as coffee, cocoa, chocolate, pineapple, avocado, mango, cigars and for sure some other quality produce from the Dominican Republic.”
