The average market price of vegetables recently showed a significant decrease. The wholesale price of vegetables in Xinfadi Market was 2-2.8 yuan [0.29-0.41 USD] per 0.5 kg the day before yesterday. This is a 28.36% decrease in comparison with the previous week. The high temperatures and the strong rain in July and August caused vegetables to either drown or dry out. The vegetable price increased by 5 yuan [0.73 USD] per 0.5 kg in a very short period.
The weather turned colder after autumn began in August. Vegetable production recovered and so did the price. Vegetable production will move southward in October, which will significantly improve vegetable supply conditions. The price is then expected to drop to regular levels in comparison with previous years.
