Typhoon Mangkhut does significant damage to Guangdong

Xinhua reported on September 17th that the provincial meteorological office showed that typhoon Mangkhut landed on the coast of Jiangmen City in Guangdong around 17:00. At that time the wind speed reached 162 km per hour. More than 2.52 million people were already relocated by 18:00 on the day before the typhoon landed, and 48 thousand fishing vessels returned to the harbor for safety.

Trees uprooted by the typhoon

Typhoon Mangkhut caused much damage in Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Guangdong. Reconstruction work is currently underway, but reconstruction is slow because many roads are damaged. News reports also show that the docks suffered significant damage. An employee from a Shenzhen supply company stated that "different docks suffered various degrees of damage; Yantian dock halted operations in the evening of September 15th and resumed today around 20:00."

Apart from this, people also noticed that the typhoon wrecked many dock facilities. So, even though the typhoon passed, facilities need to be rebuilt before operations can resume. Government officials also announced that the typhoon moved on to Fujian this afternoon.
