Supermarket and hypermarkets chains of Malaysia
Econsave seeks to import fresh fruit in Chile

In a conversation with SimFRUIT, Sim Chau Yan, responsible for the import division of Econsave, supermarkets and hypermarkets in Malaysia, spoke of the company and their search for Chilean fresh fruit to expand imports and offer for their customers.

"Econsave has a history of more than 13 years,being one of the 5 major retailers in Malaysia. Because of this to work with us means that your product can potentially reach, for example, 4 million consumers in Selangor, one of the most dynamic and populous markets of Malaysia," said Chau. Selangor is located in the Strait of Malacca, whose population exceeds 4.1 million.
 
This cash & carry chain has been awarded twice by Superbrands. In 2005 as the best company of Malaysia and in 2006 as the best option for consumers. "Our mission is to offer low prices, but quality products," said Chau Yan  adding that the company receives annually the visit from about 30 million customers in total of its stores, it also counts with more than 4,000 employees and a turnover on profits of
RM $1 billion per year (about U.S.D $310 million.)

Looking for  Chilean Table Grapes and Apples
 
Sim Chau Yan, told Simfruit the company is looking for suppliers of Chilean fruit. "We are looking for Chilean fresh fruit such as grapes, apples, kiwi, cherry and blueberry. In addition to suppliers that want businto keep business with us in the long term."
 
"We directly import and that is how we supply our stores throughout Malaysia. Last year we made began doing business with Chile, especially  in the import of table grapes. It went quite Well, that's why today we are back and looking for more suppliers for our stores," said the rep. Adding that "Chilean grapes are fantastic and has been well accepted by our customers. We also know the excellnt Chilean fruit quality in apples," said Chau Yan.

As for the table grape varieties the representative said "we are interested in Crimson, Thompson, Red Globe, Roger and all types of seedless grapes," seedless grapes have attracted significantly the interest in our the local market. In the context of apples they look for Fuji, Royal Gala and Granny Smith large sizes. But mostly they are interested in red apples with a high level of color.
 
Blueberries and kiwi are highly prized  fruit by consumers because of their important contribution to health. While cherries, although they have higher costs, they are sought for their taste and because they are often used in many local dishes.

"Our customers are our first priority, so we offer low prices but products with
quality" and because Chilean fruit is renowned for its quality, the Malaysian company is looking for more fruit suppliers," said Chau Yan.
