Cancer alligator pears

Preliminary research indicates avocados, which are distinguished by their bumpy, dark skin, could help prevent oral cancer. Lab studies at Ohio State University found nutrients taken from avocados, also known as alligator pears, killed some oral cancer cells and prevented pre-cancerous cells from growing.

More research is needed, but experts think the phytochemicals found in avocados are key. The California avocado commission provided the avocados used in this study.
