Chinese garlic harvest down around 20%

The garlic harvest in China this season is noticeably smaller. The quality this year is much better that previous years. Johannes Lachi from Exotimex Europe said that less was planted due to the low prices which the Chinese growers received last year. China has 20-30% less garlic available this year. The fact that less than 30% of the Chinese garlic is destined for export this will definitely affect the market. According to Johannes the price for Chinese garlic at the moment is double that of last year. This will also have an effect next year because the it is very expensive to buy seeds. The current price for garlic in China is the highest for 16 years.

Exotimex is one of the bigger garlic importers in Holland. The product is available year round in various packaging. Exotimex brings the garlic on the market under the Tjakka brand name.
