Taste the sugariness of passiflora edulis fruit

Mayana Limited a producer and exporter of wide range fresh and processed agro-produce to Europe, has intensified the farming of passiflora edulis passion fruit (purple in colour). As company vision and mission agitates for development of a satisfied fruit producing body and marketing of high quality produce, Mayana limited in conjunction with 800 contracted out-growers across the country, have opened up 1600 acres of passiflora edulis passion fruit farms.

In Uganda, the passiflora edulis passion fruit vines are doing well due to comparative advantages of good soils (medium mixture of sandy loams with soil ph value ranging from 6.5-7.5) and enough rainfall that have provided a conducive atmosphere. For quality, sweetness and juicy of passiflora fruits, the company has ensured continuous addition of farmyard manure coupled with light intercropping with pigeon peas which has boosted the water retention capacity and soil fertility in the farms.

Locally, passiflora edulis passion fruits have two picking seasons. First season starts in April-May and ends in June. The second season takes off from August-November. And the November season has bigger and more fruits than the May one.

During the harvesting, the purple passion fruits are picked, graded and stored at 20 degrees Celsius and at relative humidity of 85-90%. This ensures wrinkling does not take place and quality is preserved for 30 days. Secondly, the fruits are maintained clean and readily for consumption by either squeezing out the pulp using a spoon or processing it into juice. Above all, the passiflora extracted juice contains exotic taste which is given as a digestive stimulant and for treatment of gastric cancer.

Not only is the passiflora fruit pulp important because of the high food value content,   also the passiflora leaves are air-dried passiflorine is extracted and used as sedative and tranquilizer.

With all benefits seen above, consuming Mayana passiflora passion is “like killing many birds using one stone”.

Taste difference now!!
