South Tyrol: Wholesale apple prices

The Economic research institute WIFO in Bolzano regularly publishes a list of wholesale prices for various products. With the publication of these prices for the most important South Tyrolean apple varieties, we want to provide an orientation for the situation on the apple market. Prices for August 2018 are now available.

A look at the latest wholesale prices for the month of August shows that the first prices for the new harvest are approximately on average compared to those of the past two years. In August, WIFO only raised the prices for the Gala and Golden Delicious apple varieties, and the Golden are mostly still remnants of the 2017 harvest. The published prices are always gross prices, from which the costs of storage, transport, marketing etc. have to be deducted in order to obtain an indication of the expected payment prices.

The prices for the Gala variety average €0.77/kg on average between those in August 2016 (€0.69/kg) and those in August 2017 (€0.88/kg). According to the WIFO, the average price for the Golden Delicious variety remained unchanged in August at €1.11/kg, well above August of the past two years. More meaningful data is only to be expected from September, when most apple varieties are on offer again.
