Good quality and high calibers

Peru: Seedless grapes expected to have a positive season

The Peruvian grape season will begin in mid-October and it is expected to be quite positive despite the uncertain weather conditions that may delay some sales operations for producers and intermediaries, due to the warning of a possible El Niño phenomenon. Production volume is expected to be quite good in the fields, but producers still don't know how the quality and sizes of the seedless grapes will be. For example, there is already a lot of dark fruit in the Red Globe variety and the calibres range from L to XL.

Fruvegaura is one of the companies devoted to grapes. The company buys the fruit for export from third-party fields in Piura, Lambayeque, and Ica, which allows them to end their season in the first week of April. "The company's main objective for the next season is to increase our export volume, constantly supplying our customers with a preferential service. We also have to construct our packing facilities and expand our plantations to their maximum capacity, which we will hopefully achieve this year," stated Eduardo Lamas, the company's operational manager.

Fruvegaura mainly packs the Sugraone, Crimson, Flame, and Red Globe grape varieties, the latter in a smaller quantity. "We have the intention of planting some new varieties with royalties that we are evaluating to have in our fields," Eduardo said.

"Agriculture is always challenging, as it involves many parameters, such as soil, water and climate conditions, and the pests there are in each cycle. Another great challenge we have is the investment and strategic alliances with importers, as that guarantees a campaign succeeds or fails. Thankfully, that's not something that concerns us right now because we are working with very good people that are committed to work with us in the USA and in Europe."

Grapes account for 60% of the company's annual turnover. The company has a strategic alliance in the west coast of the United States that allows them to manage both coasts. This year they plan to export 80 containers of bagged grapes and clamshell grapes to the US. and Europe.

Fruvegaura, 4 years of adding value to the Peruvian grape

This Peruvian company was created in 2014 due to the need to bring to the market high agronomic quality raw materials and that are produced following environment friendly parameters, and a controlled use of pesticides (MRLs) in agricultural operations of various premium materials for industrial foods, beverages, and dyes.

In addition to trading seedless grapes, the company produces Hass avocados, Tahiti lime, crimson and seedless watermelons, bi-colored sweet corn, beef and grape tomatoes, mini peppers, edamame, sweet potato, and oriental vegetables.

"We have an administrative / commercial partner, Joe Cardenas, who represents us in the US and has more than 25 years of experience in the agricultural products industry and is working closely with one of our North American customers on table grapes," Lamas said.
