Peru: Lambayeque certifies more than 28,000 tons of Hass avocado

Senasa, which is part of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, certified 28,317 tons of Hass avocado in the region of Lambayeque. The certified fruit will be shipped to different European, American, and Asian countries.

1,595 phytosanitary certificates were issued complying with the requirements established by the National Plant Protection Organization of each importing country.

Phytosanitary certification is a process that includes the certification of the production sites, packaging plants, inspections of shipments, and other details related to the sanitary and phytosanitary aspect of the product.

In this campaign, authorities certified 118 production sites which together amount to 4,172 hectares of crops. In addition, the fruit was processed to guarantee that it reaches maturity at its destination.

The 2018 Hass avocado campaign was carried out from March to August, with shipments to the Netherlands and the United States. The amount of product certified in this campaign passed the nearly 14 thousand tons of product that were certified in 2017.

In addition to certifying Hass avocado shipments and production sites, Senasa also certified packing plants and conducted online avocado inspections for countries with work plans, such as the United States, China, and Argentina.
