Vitacress Portugal present at Fruit Attraction

“Demand for organic fresh produce growing at a faster pace than crop availability”

“We've noticed a strong growth in demand for organic ready-to-eat salads and vegetables. It’s growing faster than the demand for conventional products in both Portugal and Spain. This demand for organic fresh produce is growing at a faster pace than crop availability. We are a consumer led business, so at Vitacress we are converting a significant part of our conventional land into organic to better cope with the market potential”, explains José Fradeira from Vitacress Portugal.

The company will be present as usual at the Fruit Attraction and it will bring three innovations to the exhibition. “One of these innovations is the new organic bowl ‘Oásis’. It’s a ready to eat delicious salad, based on a baby leaves mix, which includes coriander and some toppings, such as dry dates, cashew and cheese, all seasoned with extra-virgin olive oil.

The main target of Vitacress Portugal is the current consumption base of ready to eat salads, providing a different and more gastronomic experience.

“The second innovation we will bring to the show, is our new salad ‘Must’. It’s a baby leaves combination of lettuce, lamb lettuce and mustard leaves. Mustard leaves are not usual in our market. This new salad is slightly spicy, bringing additional excitement to the salad segment.”

As a third innovation, the company is anticipating winter’s arrival through new mixes of baby leaves to garnish very nutritional soups. “In Portugal we have probably the highest consumption per capita of soup, which is mainly handmade at home, so our objective is to provide a more convenient and nutritional product (we call it “Super Soup”!) fully in line with Portuguese consumption habits.”

The main market for Vitacress Portugal is the national market, where it holds a substantial market share advantage over other branded business. “We’ll reach the Spanish and Angolan markets (the latter via air freight), though the main market will continue to be Portugal, due to the limited shelf life of these products.”, concludes José.

Vitacress will be present at the Fruit Attraction in Hall 5, Stand 5C04/5B04/5C05/5B05.
