Despite the extreme weather conditions:

"Pfalzmarkt eG" is keeping to ambitious targets for 2018 anniversary year"

As part of the general assembly concerned with "Germany's largest vegetable garden", the board from Reinhard Oerther and Hans-Jörg Friedrich have made up a good interim balance. With a trade turnover of 96.7 million euros, Germany's market leader for home-grown fruit and vegetables is as of 31 August 'fully on course', adhering to the ambitious targets - Pfalzmarkt eG anticipates a production volume of 230,000 tons of fruit and vegetables and a turnover of EUR 150 million in the current financial year. The course for the future business development of Pfalzmarkt eG has been laid: plans for expansion of the location will be presented in the autumn.

Despite the nationwide heat wave this summer and the weather-related delayed start of the season, the "Pfalzmarkt für Obst und Gemüse eG" is still optimistic. It expects that the goals, set for the current financial year, will be achieved. With a production volume of 230,000 tons of fruit and vegetables and a goods turnover of 150 million euros, Pfalzmarkt eG plans to repeat the excellent results of the previous year.

Pfalzmarkt eG is 'fully on course' as of 31 August
With a trade turnover of 96.7 million euros, Germany's market leader for home-grown fruit and vegetables is currently only EUR 1.1 million below budget and so it is 'fully on course'. As the two board members Reinhard Oerther and Hans-Jörg Friedrich announced at the general meeting in Mutterstadt, Pfalzmarkt eG will set the self-imposed bar for the financial year 2018 'even higher".

Pfalzmarkt growers operating under extreme conditions
The two decision-makers are particularly optimistic about the fact that, after the difficult weather and production conditions this spring and summer, Pfalzmarkt eG is perceived as a particularly reliable regional producer, partner and nationwide direct supplier by food retailing, says Hans-Jörg Friedrich: "The fact that our 200 active Pfalzmarkt growers have delivered reliably even under the most extreme conditions, contributing to the security of supply of freshly harvested fruit and vegetables in Germany, was received very well!"

Due to weather conditions, the Palatinate is starting the season four weeks later: Pfalzmarkt eG compensates production volumes with some spring varieties. Fresh onions from the Palatinate ranked among the "TOP 3" in 2017: spring onions, radishes and around 30 million head and leaf lettuces. As the harvest in the Palatinate was delayed by about four weeks due to the weather, this was noticeable in the production volumes for spring onions, onions and in some types of lettuce.

If weather permits along, Pfalzmarkt growers will continue their journey with the attractive autumn program of regionally produced fresh produce. Since Pfalzmarkt eG offers around 240 different fresh products with more than 15,000 different product variants, other fresh products have almost completely compensated for the somewhat lower production volumes of spring onions and some lettuces.

In 2017, 22 main products generated a revenue share of at least € 2 million each. All in all, these exceptionally high demand for fresh produce - including autumn products such as gourds and green crops - will once again contribute around 81% to the turnover of goods in 2018 and 80% to the total amount of fruits and vegetables produced by Pfalzmarkt eG. Reinhard Oerther continues: "If the weather in the second half of the year is reasonably okay, we will use our potential in late summer and autumn and continue in close cooperation with our producers and employees!"

The placement of the Pfalzmarkt eG, being located in the largest contiguous vegetable growing area in Germany, brings many advantages. Pfalzmarkt eG is investing more and more in quality assurance, including fresh logistics and traceability, so that the variety of flavors from the Palatinate continues to reach the consumer via fresh food. After investing a total of 5.8 million euros in 2017, another 6.5 million euros will be invested in the Pfalz location this year.

General Assembly confirms the course of action
All results point to important expansion steps. Christian Deyerling, Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Pfalzmarkt, thanked all the members of the Executive Board, Supervisory Board and Advisory Board responsible for the 2017 financial year for their dedication and good work. The proposals of the Executive Board for the allocation of profits were adopted. This year's net profit of 1.76 million euros and the profit carried forward of just under 1.77 million euros for 2017 were carried forward. The course for the future business development of "Pfalzmarkt eG" has been laid: the expansion plans will be presented in the autumn.
