The mango harvest in the northern part of the state has entered its final stage; according to estimates the harvest and packing activities for this fruit will finish before the end of September.
Daniel Ibarra Lugo, the president of the Association of Mango Exporters of the Fruit Fly Free Zone, said that at this point the activity has an overall progress of 75 percent.
He said that the remaining 25 percent of the production would be harvested in the next 3 weeks, a period in which they also expected to complete packaging activities.
He said that the harvest was well advanced, because the early varieties had already been harvested, as well as 90% of the Kent variety and 10% of the Keitt varieties.

According to Ibarra Lugo, there has been an improvement in the placement of this fruit in the United States in recent days because there is a better movement of fruit to the different commercial places. Unfortunately the strong rains at this time of year in the region affected the quality of the fruit and there have been losses in production ranging between 65-70%.
"Unfortunately, right now there are no good yields in the field due to weather conditions and a large part of the harvest had to be diverted to the national market either for the production of juices or for direct consumption by the population.
This happened because a large part of the fruit that is currently being cut no longer meets the quality standards to be exported and had to be sent to the national market," he concluded.
