Chiquita case

Banacol rejects the call to trial of its officials

The Antioquia-based company, Banacol, rejected through a statement the call to trial made by the Attorney General's Office of the officials of the company, Victor HenrĂquez, Jorge Cadavid, Javier Ochoa, and Juan Diego Trujillo, for their alleged participation in financing the paramilitary Arlex Hurtado front of the AUC in representation of Chiquita Brands.

The company stated that the four aforementioned officials have not been employed, nor have they ever represented the interests of Chiquita Brands.

Banacol is not, nor has it ever been a subsidiary of that company, and it has never channeled resources to the Arlex Hurtado front or any other illegal structure or activity, they stated.

They also said that the economic contributions it made were to the Convivir, which was promoted by the State since 1994 and regulated in 1997 by President Ernesto Samper.

They added that the officials affected by the Prosecutor's resolution are honest people, and that they have complete trust in them and their actions. "We are certain that their actions have been adjusted to corporate and legal principles, and we are sure that they will be able to argue their defense and demonstrate their innocence in the following stages of the process, with the full support of the Organization," they stated.
