Peru: Fruits and veg stand out in exportable supply of Lima region

A total of 12 products, including fruits, vegetables, and pisco, have export potential in the provinces of the Lima region, stated the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) when it presented Lima's Regional Export Plan (PERX).

The pomegranate is part of the exportable supply of the Lima region.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade, Edgar Vasquez, said that the region could export a greater volume of cherimoya, passion fruit, guanabana, berries, pomegranate, peach, Hass avocados, citrus, asparagus, capsicum, onion, garlic, and pisco to more markets by overcoming some competitiveness gaps that were identified during the updating of the Regional Export Plan of the Lima Region.

"The Lima PERX allowed us to determine thirty-eight (38) actions to be implemented, both by the public sector, the private sector, and the academia in the region, which will improve the competitive position of companies with a view of achieving their insertion in the international market," he added.

The actions to be developed include the participation of organizations in national and international fairs, the implementation of certifications, such as Global GAP (good practices), and participating in international internships, among other things.

In addition, a group of actions are related to cross-cutting issues, such as the improvement of interconnectivity conditions, and the management of environment and natural risks.

"The implementation of the Lima PERX represents a major challenge. The actors of the productive-export chains should be organized through the activation of the Regional Export Committee (CERX), to monitor the implementation of the actions proposed in the plan. In addition, the Regional Government must incorporate the PERX as part of its regional management instruments, through the issuance of a Regional Ordinance," said the vice minister.
