The Spanish mango campaign is already underway and the packing stations are already working double shifts to get the product on the shelves.
"This week, we have made the first shipments of organic Osteen mangoes to Europe thanks to the fact that we have some early production. We are carrying out a careful selection of the fruit that has already reached its optimum ripeness. Next week, the campaign will start officially for the majority of exporters in Malaga," says Álvaro Martínez, manager of Axarfruit.
Although the harvest is said to have been delayed compared to previous campaigns, Álvaro Martínez says that things are simply going back to normal. "In previous seasons, the harvest started earlier than usual due to the high temperatures; however, we have always harvested Osteen mangoes at this time."
Spanish mangoes are arriving to the market in an unbeatable situation, according to the producer and exporter. "The fruit from Israel and Senegal has already been sold out, as they have finished earlier than usual with fewer volumes this campaign. Also, unlike other years, the mangoes have an optimal coloration and more balanced calibers (not as big), and the yields are also higher, with a greater load of fruit in the trees."
The Spanish mango harvest is expected to be 30% greater in terms of volume. "I think it will be a good year for Spanish mango, which will be able to further consolidate its position in the European market and become more competitive in terms of price against overseas mangoes, such as the Brazilian," says Álvaro. "I think it's going to be a good year."
The main markets to which this company from Malaga ships its mangoes are Germany, France and Portugal, although they also export some smaller volumes to other European and North American markets, such as Canada. Meanwhile, Axarfruit's organic avocado and lemon campaigns are also underway.
