Jan van Dongen, VDH, about takeover of warehouse activities Mooy in Breda:

“We can provide our customers with even more added value services from Breda”

On Tuesday 14 August, the bankruptcy of Mooy Logistics was announced. Although there was quite a bit of interest for a new start, both nationally and internationally, white smoke was only seen on Friday evening, 31 August. The warehouse activities in Waddinxveen and transport activities were acquired by Austrian logistical service provider Gartner GK. VDH The Freight Managers, which has been a combination of Van Dongen & Heerschap, Heestermans Logistiek, Fruit Forwarders Europe and VDC Logistics since 1 January 2017, they will take over warehouse activities of Mooy in Breda (Hazeldonk), the Netherlands. The building in Breda consists of 18,500 m2 floor space, including 3,000 m2 landing floor and a special cold zone for soft fruit.

Jan van Dongen, manager of VDH, thinks the deal could have been settled earlier. “Apparently, not everyone in this business understands you have to be able to switch quickly. If it were up to me, we would have settled it a week earlier.” When Mooy was declared bankrupt, Jan quickly made his interest in the Hazeldonk location known to the trustees in bankruptcy. “The transport activities weren’t an option for us, but the warehouse activities in Breda are a welcome addition to our locations in Moerdijk and Barendrecht. This way, we can provide our customers with even more added value services.”

“The building in Hazeldonk consists of a large repacking space, and besides, one of our customers has a modern ripening facility with three-layered ripening chambers at their disposal. In cooperation with our partners, we can continue expanding on these activities in future. We are part of a growing market, because in the past year there was an extreme shortage of cold store in the Netherlands. We’ll make sure volumes won’t decrease in the next few years, and with our warehouses in Moerdijk, Barendrecht and Breda we’re ready to unburden our customers completely in their logistical process,” Jan says. A large part of the office space in Breda is already being sublet.

VDH will take over about 20 workers of Mooy Logistics, some who were working in the warehouse in Breda and a number of them who were involved in the commercial and operational handling at the location in Waddinxveen. “To us, this was a logical result of the takeover. You can’t run a business without good workers,” Jan explains. “I’m glad the company can now be started again, and I hope we’ll all turn it into a good company, like it was in the past.”
