China: Dunhuang seedless white and red grapes enter market in bulk

The grapes in Dunhuang, Gansu, recently began to mature and enter the market in bulk as vineyard owners entered their busiest time of the year: harvest season. The height of the season is expected to fall in early September. Seedless white grapes are currently 2.8 yuan [0.41 USD] per 0.5 kg. Red Globe grapes are 3.3 yuan [0.48 USD] per 0.5 kg. These prices are slightly higher than last year.

When the grapes ripen, they are at their most vulnerable to extreme weather conditions. Last year, in the last week of August, a sandstorm followed by rainfall caused the product quality of grapes to decline. The supply season of Dunhuang grapes lasts one month from early September until early October. The Dunhuang grape production volume is estimated at 180 thousand tons, with seedless white grapes and Red Globe grapes as the main product varieties.
