"China: "Extreme weather conditions had little influence on price of kiwifruit"

"While many fruit production areas in China enjoyed an abundant harvest this year, the kiwifruit plantations in south China suffered from extreme weather conditions, in particular the cold snap that plagued China in April. The production volume of kiwifruit decreased as a result of these conditions." This is according to Xiao Tao of Qingdao Fengheyuan Ecoagriculture Science and Technology Co., Ltd.

"Our kiwifruit plantation is located near the Yellow Sea and is dominated by a maritime climate with warm winters and cool summers, though the amount of rain is not as great as in south China. Our kiwifruit production volume therefore did not suffer much from the heavy rainfall. I personally do not think that the extreme weather conditions and the subsequent decrease in production volume will raise the price of kiwifruit nationwide. After all, China is large and has a rich variety of natural resources. Kiwifruit plantations are distributed widely and the overall production volume is huge."

"We supply early-season and late-season kiwifruit varieties. The production season begins in September and lasts until November.
