Guy Lesvenan, Miles Import:

"There is a shortage of mango and passion fruit on the French market"

"We finished the mangoes of Israel and Mexico much earlier than other years. Spain and Brazil are not ready to fill the gap yet,” says Guy Lesvenan of Miles Import. "The situation is therefore tense at the level of supply, but prices are good."

Miles Import has developed a wide range of exotic fruits. The ready-to-eat mango is one of its flagship products.

Pineapples by plane
Due to the soil, pineapples from Cuba are very sweet. Miles Export imports them by plane and sells them ripe to the point. "For those who love sweet pineapple, it's a great product. The kids love it. Among those who prefer pineapple a little more acidic, it’s less popular."

Vietnamese passion fruits
Another product in which there’s a shortage on the French market, is the passion fruit. "There is a very strong monsoon in Asia. As a result, the harvest is weak. At the same time, the demand is strong enough, because people are starting to get familiar with this fruit. They like it a lot. Passion fruits from Vietnam and Cambodia are among the best passion fruits in the world."

Avocado market stabilised
The avocado market has stabilised for 15 days. This follows an extremely complicated period, during which prices fell dramatically due to large quantities from South Africa, Peru, Kenya and Tanzania. As of July 20th, prices have recovered, and the average sizes are sold above 10 euros."

Currently Miles Import sells avocados from Peru

Pomelos
"The exotic pomelos from Asia come from China and Vietnam. When China ends in February or March, Vietnam begins. The season lasts until the beginning of September. Vietnamese pomelos are always very sweet and there are no surprises. Chinese pomelos, which are cheaper and more voluminous, are generally much less sweet."
