China: Farmers would rather leave fruit to rot than sell it online

Farmers are, surprisingly, more afraid of a bumper harvest than a flop. This is because too much fruit leads to a fall in value. So why do farmers prefer the fruit is left to rot in the ground than use the power of e-commerce to sell it?

At present, most fruit farmers simply don't understand the Internet, and they don't know how to use fruit e-commerce to market. For example, some e-commerce operations or large supermarkets are not accessible to fruit farmers, so they can only sell their fruit to purchasers. The purchase price and quantity of the purchaser are often determined according to the market. When the harvest is high, the price will be kept low, so that the farmers have no profit at all.

There are also some fruits from the remote mountains. Even if the marketing model of e-commerce is adopted, it is really hard for it to be transported. In order to ensure the freshness of fruits, cold chain distribution is often used so the cost is also high and thus not worthwhile.
