The long dry summer has had serious consequences for the onion harvest. The yield is expected to generally be around 15 percent lower and the onions to be both smaller and more expensive than usual, according to the press report by the union for Danish onion growers. The final figures won't be announced until November, but it doesn't look good at the moment.
" the="" expected="" yield="" varies="" between="" 20="" percent="" of="" normal="" harvest="" and="" an="" almost="" yield.="" this="" is="" because="" not="" all="" growers="" were="" able="" to="" irrigate="" extent="" that="" was="" necessary."="" who="" to,="" are="" also="" disadvantaged,="" as="" they="" had="" extra="" cost="" irrigation."<="" p="">
In 2017 61.9 million kilos of onions were grown in Denmark. The yield has risen each year since 2012.
