Henan Wanbang Market: vegetable prices increased

The retail prices of vegetables in the Wanbang Market increased last week. Several kinds of vegetables showed significant price increase, for example celery, tomatoes, and pumpkins. The main reason for this development is as follows: rain still dominated the weather last week and many production areas throughout China suffered from flooding. The weather reduced production volume, which in turn caused increased prices.

The tomatoes and pumpkins currently on the market mainly come from Shandong. Since the areas where tomatoes and pumpkins grow suffered from flooding, the roots of seedlings were damaged, which will influence the production volume in the near future.

The celery on the market last week mainly came from Ningxia. Since the mostly Muslim population of Ningxia celebrated the Festival of Sacrifice last week, a festival that holds great importance to them, the number of people harvesting celery decreased and so did the production volume. The price of celery therefore went up. It is estimated that the price will come down after the festival finishes.
