President Mauricio Macri visited blueberry fields in Tucuman

Argentinian President Mauricio Macri visited the farm “El Molino”, in the Chicligasta department, in the province of Tucuman, where different varieties of fresh and frozen blueberries are produced and packed for export to the United States, Canada, China and several countries in Europe.

During his visit, President Macri was accompanied by Juan Manzur, governor of the province and Francisco Estrada, President of the Association of Blueberry Producers of Tucuman (APRATUC), member of the Argentinian Blueberry Committee (ABC), led by Federico Bayá.

Within this framework, the Head of State toured the establishment, which at harvest season employs about 2,000 harvesters in the region, and spoke with Francisco Estrada about the activity, how harvesting is carried out and the current situation in terms of blueberry production and export.

Estrada stated that currently there are 4 fields ready and able to export to the Chinese market, among which Kingberry, Early Crop and Hortifrut Expofresh can be mentioned.

The presence of Mauricio Macri was used to raise problems related to the 30% tariff rate on the export of blueberries to China. In the light of this problem, the President of the Nation committed himself to working to reduce said tariff.

The ABC, which accounts for more than 80% of the exports of blueberries of our country, gathers the regional chambers of the sector which are the Association of Blueberry Producers of the Argentine Mesopotamia (APAMA), the Chamber of Producers of Blueberries and other Berries (CAPAB).
