The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Rogers Valencia, announced yesterday that, between January and June of 2018, Peruvian agro-exports to the European Union (EU) amounted to 1.093 billion dollars, i.e. 24% more than in the same period of last year.
The minister stressed that this is the highest figure achieved in a semester since the entry into force of the Free Trade Agreement with the EU in March 2013.
"In the first six months of the year, agricultural exports to the European Union grew by more than 80% when compared to the same period of 2013, when they amounted to 602 million dollars," he said.
According to him, this year's growth was supported by an increase in shipments of fresh grapes (58%), mango (44%), avocado (33%), asparagus (20%), coffee (15%) and banana (7%), which accounted for 68% of the total exported.
It should be noted that the European Union is the main destination of Peruvian agro-exports (37% share).
Peru is the world's largest supplier of avocado and asparagus, it is the second largest supplier of mango (after Brazil), the sixth biggest supplier of mandarins and coffee, the seventh biggest supplier of fresh grapes, and the tenth biggest supplier of bananas.
