Shouquang China: Leafy veg prices up 25% because of heavy rain

Vegetables in Shouguang were flooded as a result of the typhoon and heavy rainfall. The production volume and the product quality were affected. The price of vegetables increased, in particular the price of leafy vegetables such as Chinese cabbage, celery, and eggplant. In some cases the price increased by 25%. The price of parsley in the supermarket even reached 25-30 yuan [3.67-4.41 USD] per 0.5 kg, which is several times higher than it was last year.

People in the industry say that vegetable prices were somewhat high in August because the production volume decreased as a result of the high temperatures. This typhoon further diminished the vegetable production volume and prices increased even further, but not without limits. The vegetable supply will soon recover.
