Beginning of the campaign

Mexico: “Beautiful fruit, smaller calibres”

“We have good expectations for the season, which we are just beginning. There is sufficient volume and the quality is good. Even though the fruit is beautiful, due to some lack of water issues, the calibres are a little smaller than in the previous campaign”, states José Manuel Jurado from Intergap Food, importer and exporter located in Spain and Mexico.

“The market situation in Europe has been difficult with a year of oversupply of many origins and especially in Peru and South Africa. Now these origins have ended their season, the market starts having a greater demand for avocados again. Which is good for the starting season of Mexico, which will run approximately till the end of February”, says José.

He explains that Intergap Food supplies the European market with stable volumes throughout the season, also Asian markets and the Middle east. “At certain times, Mexican avocado exporters tend to supply other markets closer to home. However, our company is more focused on the European market and the Asian markets. There is noticeable tendency for increased avocado exports from Mexico towards the Asian market. It’s a very demanding market, which can handle the volumes without neglecting the high quality of the product.”
