Xiamen Customs data shows that Xiamen imported 74 thousand tons of fresh fruit, dried fruit, and nuts (hereafter 'fruit') between January and July, 2018. That is an increase of 37.9% in comparison with the same period in the previous year. Of that volume, 7,225 tons was imported in July. This is an increase of 20.3% in comparison with the same period in the previous year.
Data further shows that most of the imported fruit came from Taiwan and ASEAN countries. Xiamen imported 39 thousand tons of fruit from Taiwan between January and July, which is an increase of 20% in comparison with the same period in the previous year. In the same period, Xiamen imported 35 thousand tons of fruit from ASEAN countries, which is an increase of 68.6% in comparison with the same period in the previous year. Of the volume imported from ASEAN countries, 19 thousand tons came from Vietnam, which is an increase of 74.1% in comparison with the same period in the previous year, and 9 thousand tons came from Thailand, which is a rapid increase of 290% in comparison with the same period in the previous year.
A spokesperson of the Xiamen Customs Office stated that pineapples and dragon fruit are the main imported fruit varieties. Xiamen imported 28 thousand tons of pineapples between January and July, which is an increase of 13% in comparison with the same period in the previous year. Xiamen also imported 18 thousand tons of dragon fruit, which is an increase of 73.2% in comparison with the same period in the previous year. Apart from this, Xiamen also imported 4,087 tons of dried longan, which is an increase of 150% in comparison with the same period in the previous year, and 3,431 tons of fresh mangoes, which is an increase of 120% in comparison with the same period in the previous year.
