Rene Cornelissen, Ortolanda:

“Stable radish market this summer”

The radish market was very stable this summer, according to Rene Cornelissen of Ortolanda, which manages multiple radish nurseries in the Netherlands, and which also offers radish from Italy in winter. “We had stable supplies and sales. Last year, the summer was more fickle with higher peaks and lower lows. This year, we didn’t have stiff prices, but prices weren’t bad either.”

The market was stable for both bunched radish and loose radish, according to the grower. “That proportion is fairly stable as well, just like the Dutch radish area.” He feels good about the remainder of the season. “Supply will start decreasing, and normally demand starts increasing when the holidays are over. I therefore definitely don’t expect prices to drop.”

The Italian supply from Borgo Grappa will start again in November. “Our sales are very diverse in Europe. In the past weeks, France was very good for us.”
